HISTORY
How did it start?
Teatre Tre started in 1979 as the Mime Ensemble and consisted of students graduating in mime from the Academy of Theatre in Stockholm. Lena Stefenson says: "It was the right time. The collective was more important than personal careers, we joined together to become stronger and to create a platform.
The Mime
The Mime Ensemble performed successfuly and mostly for their own generation. The mime had just broken free from the shackles of the white painted Marcel Marceau tradition. It related closely to dance theatre, and was seen as a healthy contrast to traditional spoken theatre.
1983
In 1983 the Mime Ensemble moved into the Plaza Theatre, which was shared with Pantomimteatern and in 1987 the name was changed to New Mime Ensemble.
1993
After 10 years at the Plaza, New Mime Ensemble spent six years without a permanent residence. In 1994, Bengt Andersson was made artistic director. The name of Hannu Böök was associated more and more often with the group and in 1995 New Mime Ensemble reorganized and changed its name to Teater Tre, to reflect its increasingly developed and broadened theatrical expression. From a basis in pure mime, the group now increasingly utilised text, movement, image and music in their productions.
1999
After being derilict for years Rosenlundsteatern was renovated and the management and development was entrusted to Teater Tre. Owned by the City of Stockholm and managed by the Rosenlund Theatre Foundation, the theatre has since undergone continuous renovation. Efforts to develop Rosenlund Theatre as a centre for artistic and creative events in Södermalm continues.
2006
A youth production of "Punchline" directed by Lena Stefenson has premiered. Rosenlund Theatre has developed through more guest appearances and a number of well known productions for children and teenagers are being produced in the theatre. The international part is expanding, including a clown show from Germany, European Circus and Teater Tre’s cooperation with the VAT Theatre in Estonia and "The Tempest" directed by Bengt Andersson. "Halli Hallå" was produced in collaboration with the Parkteatern in Stockholm and is currently on tour throughout the country, regularly filling the Rosenlund Theatre when it is on the repertoire. This play, after an idea by Sara Myrberg who also is one of the two actors, went to Japan and participated successfully in Okinawa theatre festival. In November Teater Tre journeyed to Cameroon to take part in a children's theatre festival where they played to 2-400 cheering children for every performance, a refreshing and powerful experience. The groundwork begins on "Sailor & Pekka" to premiere in early 2007.
2009
Festival Vulkan takes place with all self-produced performances on the home stage as well as international guests.Teater Tre’s birthday! 30 years as a theatre group and 10 years in our own Theatre!
